The Henry Taylor / Acorn spoon gouge is suitable for most hollowing out most spoon bowls and is capable of cutting fairly tight curves. They have been used in our spoon carving classes and proven to hold a good edge.

The Mora 164 is a versatile hook knife with a fairly tight curve that makes it a versatile blade that should carve out the bowl of almost any spoon bowl. The blade is constructed from stainless steel and the handle from Scandinavian Birch. I recommend this knife as the back of the blade has not been sharpened allowing for push cuts with your fingers or thumbs.

The Mora 105 sloyd knife is a fantastic blade to have in your carving kit. It has proven to be very easy to use during the spoon carving classes and one that I highly recommend. It has a laminated steel blade with a Scandi grind and is razor sharp straight out of the box.
