It's a pain for many pen turners when the mandrel bends and ruins the live centre whilst turning a blank.

With the Pen Mandrel Saver, pressure is applied directly onto the blank rather than the mandrel, preventing a bent mandrel.

A mandrel saver is a type of live centre and has a morse taper. They replace the traditional live centre in the tailstock of the lathe.
